Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. It was a mixture of reggaeton, pop and rock not only brought renewed interest to reggaeton, but also brought attention towards Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mostly, and four songs in the year 2016. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in 2017. After that, some of the most popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna collaborated with Maluma for the release of Medellin. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton stars were complaining about their genre's shift towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation namely Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and others into his music.
