Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his parents and a commitment in the local community. One of the first things he did is to help his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on an Eufala farm. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the USA. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and captured two national titles. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975, and was named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in the college. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and played nine years for the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. His first job was as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. In the past, he worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 young men from the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs during his time playing college football. He was a captain in 1975. was the captain of the team. In 1993, he joined the University of South Florida's athletic department as the assistant director. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
